Creative Schools Initiative

The Creative Schools Initiative is about to take-off!  Staff have been busy ramping up for the launch of this new program this fall at Madrona K-8 and Orca K-8 Schools.

Part of this preparation has been identifying teaching artists for placement at those schools for the inaugural year.  Help us welcome Charhys Bailey, a poetry/spoken word artist, and visual artist Nate Herth to the Creative Schools Team!

Charhys has ten years of experience as a teaching artist and youth development worker. She has developed curriculum and facilitated workshops in creative writing, spoken word and hip hop in schools and community based organizations. She was the recipient of a digital storytelling grant in 2002 and she has a BA in Creative Writing and Popular Education from Evergreen State College.

Nate has taught art since 2004 with Gage Academy of Art, Arts Corps, Seattle Art Museum and Stewart Middle School in Tacoma. He has experience writing and teaching project based and integrated arts curriculum as well as experience collaborating with middle school teachers. He describes his work saying, “I challenge students to redefine and expand the boundaries of their artistic process as we integrate math, science, language and social disciplines into arts curricula.”
