My name is Sara Quan. I am a Special Education Teacher at Interagency Academy in Seattle Public Schools. My endorsements in education include K-21 Special Education and K-6 Elementary Education; currently working towards an endorsement in Arts Education (because I cannot imagine a day when Interagency—particularly the Southeast Campus—loses its partnership with Arts Corps, so I am here in support of that relationship.
I was born and raised in Wisconsin and am only a Green Bay Packers fan when it works in my favor. The best four years of my life happened when I attended Butler University for my undergraduate degree. While there, I studied for a semester in Spain and another semester shadowing policy work on Capitol Hill (back when our nation was more bipartisan than it is today).
Following graduation, I moved to Chicago for a decade of becoming a real adult. I worked at the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for five years, followed by a one-year stint in sales. After spending all my free time working with kids at Tutoring Chicago, I decided to return to school. At DePaul University, I obtained my MA/MEd and began my journey in education. I taught for one year at a high school in Chicago before relocating to Seattle. I am currently in my 11th year of teaching (10th year teaching in Seattle).
I am particularly obsessed with my two children. Simon is 10 and Dilly is 5. To be clear, I am more obsessed with the humans; less obsessed with parenting. I am an enneagram 6, so I prefer structure, reliability, and always being prepared. Currently, I find peace and comfort in reading, doing puzzles, and playing games. I am learning to love art; though I am more of a crafty person than an artsy person (there’s a difference!). Above everything, being a teacher is a favorite thing. I don’t daydream about another career and hope I am lucky enough to continue in this [hard] work for years to come.
